What is the PBAC SSI?
The Premier’s be active Challenge Secondary Initiative is a joint venture funded by Preventive Health SA, conducted by the Department for Education and supported by ACHPER SA. Its aim is to enhance secondary school students’ wellbeing through increased levels of physical activity.

Who can participate:
- All government school secondary students. Government secondary schools that encourage all their year 7 & 8 students to complete 10 weeks of the Challenge will be provided with supporting materials.
What students must do:
- The Challenge requires students to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity on at least 5 days of the week for at least 10 weeks from the start of the school year until the end of week 10, term 3.
- Students must record their physical activity on the relevant student recording booklets or class progress charts.
- A teacher or parent/carer must endorse the student physical activity record to indicate that the student has met the participation requirements.
What schools must do:
- If your school intends to participate in the PBAC SSI in 2026, please complete the form above.
- The first 20 schools to submit a registration in 2026 will receive a $250 physical activity pack.
- To receive the end-of-year $750 grant, schools must:
- Complete the 10 week Challenge with at least 80% of year 7 & 8s
- Enter the data via EMS in September
- Complete a 10 minute teacher survey pre and post Challenge
- Have students complete a 20 minute survey at the end of the Challenge.
