Darren Hicks - Cycling
For Darren, sport in general, but Cycling in particular, has been a huge part of life since his earliest memories. “I have photos of me at around 4yrs old doing wheelies and jumps in my backyard!”.
Now 38, Hicks has 1 x Gold and 1 x Silver Paralympic Games medals, 2 x World Championship Golds, 6 x World Cup Golds and a long list of National Titles.
A Motor Vehicle Accident in 2014 led to the amputation of his Right Leg above the knee, as well as a serious break to his C2 Vertebrae. Whilst not an easy road back, Darren found a confidence through ParaCycling that he had never seen in himself before. He believes that sport has given him a new direction in life and an appreciation of where hard work and determination can take you. Lessons he is really looking forward to sharing with students through out the PBAC.
